Part 4: How Do I Know I’m Having a Panic Attack?
By NancyC on Dec 18, 2008 in How Do I Know I'm Having a Panic Attack
So what does a Panic Attack feel like?
Well, let me speak from my own VERY personal experiences up close with the beast.
As I mentioned in one of my prior posts, my brain screamed heart attack because I was experiencing the exact symptoms of same (heart attack) one hears described.
- Heart palpitations
- Chest pain
- Breathing difficulty
- Feeling of pressure on the chest
- Dizziness or light headedness
- Waking up in Cold Sweats
- Sick to your stomach
As these symptoms can be the result of having a heart attack, and those suffering from panic attacks, like myself, many often wind up in ER because that is what they think is occurring.
This is not a comfortable situation to live with, particularly if they continue to get worse and more frequent. It gets to the point that one is fearing the onset of an attack more than the attack itself, which creates a vicious cycle…for the more you fear one coming, the more often they seem to occur.
It is important to remember that panic attacks are caused by a fear of the unknown and not a fear of the known. It is often difficult to get to the root of the prevailing problem.
My next post will deal with the basic classifications of disorders, but it is again important to know I will be dealing with “environmental” causes, not physical causes - since that is what I suffered from and the majority suffer from.
On a side note, as I mentioned in one of my earlier posts, approximately 25% of Americans suffer from some form of anxiety or panic attacks.
Did you realize that almost 30% of all disability claims are due to this affliction? That is an amazing statistic - and one that is costing our health system a fortune.
Have a Great Day,
Michael

Hiya, i have come across your blog a few times when doing research. I own a similar one and i was just wondering if you get a ton of spam? If so how do you control it, is there any plugin or something you can suggest? I get so much it’s driving me insane. I’m so frustrated by it i had to turn my comments off which i don’t want to do because i love peoples input. Also do you get strange jibberish URL’s in the spam that don’t even work or the domains are not even registered? Seems pointless (and odd) and i can’t work out why they do it. Thanks

Hello, i guess this is as good of a place as any to post and let you know. I went to subscribe to your RSS feed, and when i clicked it i got an error that said “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING” followed by other gibberish that scrolled off the screen. I had to force the page to stop loading because it locked up my browser. Cheers.

This is a very interesting insight. Aside from knowing if you have a panic attack, it is still best to know the law and your rights to stop worrying which then leads to panic.

I actually have had some of the listed symptoms above. At some point I really thought I was going crazy. Good thing a friend of mine saw my situation and provided some very helpful materials on this. It was a lesson learned for me; when panic attacks, don’t panic. You just need some good advice and you’ll be good soon enough.

I do accept as true with all of the ideas you have presented to your post. They are very convincing and will definitely work. Still, the posts are too short for beginners. May just you please lengthen them a bit from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
