The A’s of Panic Attack Treatment - Acupuncture and Aroma Therapy
By Michael on Apr 5, 2009 in Treatment for Panic Attacks
The Eastern Arts enter the picture in treatment for panic and anxiety…
Mysterious, ancient and all powerful.
What can they do for your panic attacks?
Let’s see…
Aromatherapy and Acupuncture, has been embraced by the west of late.
More and more people are turning away from traditional medical treatment in droves. Refusing the high cost of doctors and hospitals, as well as the fact that the traditional forms of medical treatment provide nothing more than a temporary masking effect and do nothing to actual cure the problem, more and more are concentrating on alternative means to try and solve their problem.
Now, the doctors of course will tell you that alternative medicine is quackery, and of course, you should keep taking their high priced drugs - but many who have embraced the ancient arts for healing would have it no other way.
Now, you can pay someone like a homeopath or other person who specializes in this form of healing or you can do yourself just as effectively. Basically, Aromatherapy to treat anxiety is, simply put, just the inhaling of essential oils and allowing them to penetrate your bloodstream through your lungs. In some cases, the essential oils that are used in aromatherapy can be mixed with other oils and then massaged into the skin. This enables your body to absorb the oils through your skin also. You can also buy mixtures of essential oils and sea salt to use in the bath, just as you would a bath oil. Just throw a couple of tablespoons in the tub and sink into the most relaxing bath you’ve probably ever had as the essential oils are absorbed into your bloodstream (even more quickly since your pores are opened by the warmth of the water), and the sea salt will do wonders for your skin, there is not a better exfoliant that you can buy.
If you want to try a little aromatherapy at home to treat your anxiety, try using lavender oil. Lavender oil is the most calming of all the essential oils and one of the safest of all the oils to use. Essential oils are those that are derived from flowers, bark, grasses or herbs to create the oil, thus they are all totally natural.
If you don’t want to try the bath, just put a few drops of Lavender oil into an infuser and light the infuser. You can then relax and inhale the scent from the oil. Lavender oils are very calming and can help you overcome your tension. You may want to practice this with other relaxation and calming methods, like meditation.
Another tip, lightly spray your pillow case with Lavender oil for a more relaxed and restful sleep.
If you choose to try a massage, you can either have a partner give you an aromatherapy massage or you can go to a salon that specializes in this type of service. Many full service salons today are offering massage for their clients. As a matter of fact, the number of people who are requesting massage has doubled in the past 10 years. Everyone feels stressed out most of the time - you are not alone.
Aromatherapy can be a way that you can treat yourself at home for your condition. When you use this in conjunction with other relaxation techniques, it can help you work out your anxiety.
I would stress that Aromatherapy is extremely effective for mild anxiety or stress. Nothing better than sinking into a bath of Lavender oil at the end of one of those “knotting” days at the office. Light some candles, put on some soft music and enjoy, either alone or what the heck, with a “fun” partner. After all, sex and play time can be the ultimate stress reliever.
Acupuncture To Treat Anxiety
Acupuncture is yet another eastern healing art that has gained notice in the west as a way to treat various ills. Acupuncture is not something that can be performed at home, but by someone who is licensed in this field.
Acupuncture works by targeting points of the body that are related to other points of the body and using pins as a way to relieve pain and promote healing.
These “points” are connected to what the ancients describe as the energy centers of the body. The pins are vibrational points that help unblock those energy centers so that the energy flow through your body is moving freely and naturally as it was meant too. Stress, anxiety, etc., obviously cause blockage and the acupuncture resets the natural balance and flows of energy through your system.
Most people think about acupuncture as getting needles stuck in them. While pins are used in this healing art, it is about much more than just getting pins stuck in your body. It has proven to be beneficial at treating a number of different illnesses, including anxiety disorders.
You normally have to be treated more than once in order for acupuncture to work for you. In most cases, it will be a few sessions before you start to notice a change. But those who have undergone this type of treatment will often swear by it and tell you how it helped them.
However, I have had Acupuncture treatments, and you can experience the effects right away. If you go to an Acupuncturist, ask (or tell) them you want to experience a treatment that will give you an “euphoric” effect. This is extremely enjoyable… seriously. The energy centers they open up, will leave you floating a foot off the floor for several days. You know that happy feeling you get after a couple of glasses of champagne, the feeling you have right before you overdo it. The euphoric happy state… that’s what it feels like, and it’s great.
It cannot be repeated too much that what works on one person does not necessarily work on another. This is why it is important to try the right remedy for anxiety to work on you. Again, I would stress that while all of these treatments can definitely help relax you, relieve everyday stress and anxiety, if you are suffering hard core panic attacks or some other severe form of mental anguish, you may not gain too much benefit from them long term.
To solve your panic attack condition, hear what these people said helped them.

I like the idea of do it yourself more traditional medicine and healing techniques. You can often treat yourself just fine this way, espescially when you are stressed out.

Thanks for sharing some ideas that I wasn’t even considering as methods for treating my anxiety. I am going to try both acupuncture and the aromatherapy with a nice hot bath this week to see which method works best for me.

That’s some great advice, It wasn’t until I finally decided to open up and talk to my best friend about my problems that I finally found the solution to my answer. She too had experienced panic attacks for most of her life, and like me never wanted to tell anyone. Surprisingly it wasn’t therapy that she suggested. She helped me realize that in order to successfully cure my panic attacks that I’d have to take action myself.

The aroma part sounds soothing, the poking part sounds ….invigorating. It is. Maybe, they work together.
